The Eye of The I: A Book Review of Works That Started A Journey

One of the books that got me started several years ago down my path to personal evolution and the pursuit of absolute truth. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. David Hawkins describes and explains advanced states of consciousness and the way to spiritual Enlightenment. It includes dialogues with spiritual students worldwide. For the first time, a cogent and verifiable means of confirmation of spiritual reality is provided via an objective, replicable method of measurement, based on physiologically derived clinical evidence. I can recall reading the first time after a host of my own anomalous experiences and remember the profound sense of excitement I experience that I’d found a masterfully woven body of research and clinical experience to verify, support, and provide some rational explanation to the experiences I could only otherwise describe as extraordinary. In addition to introducing the now famous calibrated scale, or “map of consciousness,” Hawkins punctuates his work with anecdotal tales and universally applicable quotes such a s the following – sure to resonate with a wide and largely untapped audience. Among my favorites:

Spiritual evolution occurs as the result of removing obstacles and not actually acquiring anything new. Devotion enables surrender of the mind’s vanities and cherished illusions so that it progressively becomes freer and more open to the light of Truth. Typical of the ego is its belief that the problems to be addressed are ‘out there’, and therefore all the social programs, including wars, are devoted to fixing ‘them’ or fixing ‘out there’. The source of joy is always present, always available, and not dependent on circumstances

And perhaps my all time favorite and most applicable to the explorations on this blog:

The way out of conflict is not to try to eliminate the negative but instead to choose and adopt the positive.
