Plugging Into Your Hard-wired Happiness

The following presentation by Srikumar S. Rao, Ph.D was filmed in May of 2009 and made it’s way to the homepage of Ted.com on March 7th of 2010 where it has since been viewed nearly 500,000 times! The contents of this talk are universal, timeless, and absolutely true….

“Life is short. And uncertain. It is like a drop of water skittering around on a lotus leaf. You never know when it will drop off the edge and disappear. So each day is far too precious to waste. And each day that you are not radiantly alive and brimming with cheer is a day wasted.

Stop right now and evaluate your life. YOUR LIFE. As it is right now. Are you, by and large and daily variations aside, happier now than you have ever been? Do you have the inner conviction that you are on the path that is just right for you, the one that is transparently leading you to fulfillment in many dimensions – in your career, in relationships, in spiritual development?” – Professor Srikumar Rao, Ph.D

I love this talk. Prof. Rao reminds us of the truth that happiness exists within each of us and may emerge as the outgrowth of a natural process whenever the conditions permit. In this case: focusing on process over outcome. His words tell us that there is nothing we must “do” in order to bring our innate happiness to light, but rather simply “allow” for it to radiate forth… knowing full well, through the good times and the difficult times, that above the clouds, the sun is always shining…

Dr. Rao is the internationally best selling author of “Are You Ready to Succeed: Unconventional Strategies for Achieving Personal Mastery in Business and Life”, which has been translated into many languages and distributed in all continents. He also wrote and narrated “The Personal Mastery Program”. His most recent book is “Happiness at Work: Be Resilient, Motivated and Successful – No Matter What” McGraw-Hill, 2010.

All of his work, along with his biography can my found here on his website; a place, as he puts it:

“For persons determined to reach their full potential.

For persons who wake up each morning brimming with joy and radiating goodwill to all.

For persons actively working to make the world a better place in ways big and small.”

The takeaway: Your mere existence is sufficient validation to enjoy the richness of life; to be fully happy in this moment and every moment. The choice is yours:

Remove the clouds, let in the light, and choose to live up to your potential!
